Google antispam for your business? Think twice.

Back in 07, Google acquired Postini, one of the top mail security companies. We’ve been offering their antispam service for over a year and have been very happy with it. It works by intercepting mail, quarantining viruses and spam, and forwarding only legitimate mail onto the client’s server.

Google proceeded to take their offerings and severely undercut Postini resellers with rock-bottom pricing:

  • Basic antispam service: $3/year/user.
  • Enhanced antispam service: $12/year/user.
  • Antispam and message archiving: $25/year/user.

These prices are roughly a third of what competitors charge.

We did some investigating to see if it made sense for us to purchase Google-branded antispam for our clients, and found it’s missing one important component – timely support.

If you have issues with your spam filter, you contact us. We in turn contact our Postini support team. Resolution is speedy. Google, however, only provides support through email and discussion groups. Totally unacceptable for any organization that relies on email to conduct their business.

While the product itself is excellent, email delivery is far too critical to be trusted to such a slow method of support. We’re sticking with reselling the Postini-branded service.
