What to do with your old computer

Do you have an office closet piled up with old systems, so dysfunctional even your local charity turns up its nose?

Contact the Bridgeport Area Youth Ministry. They’ll take the computers, refurbish and wipe the hard drives, then provide them to anyone looking for a low cost system - $88 and up. Local inner-city youth handle the upgrades, sales and service, developing valuable technical skills.

Voice-over-IP that’s caller ID friendly

Your first instinct might be to use a service like Vonage or AT&T Callvantage, but these suffter from a rather large issue: the called party will see in their caller ID the number of your VoIP line, which doesn’t portray the most professional image.

Save yourself from Windows Rot

Have you ever noticed how fast a brand new computer is? It’s not because it has the fastest CPU or blazing hard drive; it’s because Windows XP has yet to be bogged down with dozens of useless applications, installed once and never used again.

This condition is so pervasive it even has a name: windows rot. And it’s the reason I reformat and reinstall software at least once a year. (more…)
